05/15/1999, Montreal - Some 400 Chinese people demonstrated today again
outside the U.S. Consulate, in protest against the NATO bombing of the
Chinese Embassy in Belgrade. Demonstrators marched through two main
streets in Chinatown, and four blocks on another main street,
Rene-Levesque, stopping the traffic during the march. Organizers and
representatives from community groups gave speeches in front of the
closed Consulate, denouncing NATO's irresponsible air attacks to
Yogoslovia, and the bombing of China's Embassy, in which three reporters
died, 20 others were injured. Speakers denounced Yogoslovian President
Milosevich's ethnic cleansing while pointing out that NATO's war against
Yogoslovia was illegal by international laws. They called for an
immediate stop of the bombing, which is causing more and more civilian
casualties. One speaker also pointed out that the bombing was directly
helping Milosevich gripping on power, that only political solution could
bring order and democracy back to Yogoslovia. (Yuan Liu)

05/15/1999, Montreal - More than 300 Chinese people gathered at Kam Fung
Restaurant in Chinatown yesterday evening to witness the foundation of
the Coallition of Chinese Organizations of Greater Montreal. According
to its organizer, Mr. Zhang Jian, the coallition's object is to unite
all Chinese people in the Greater Montreal area, to represent their
voices and to help preserve and promote the Chinese culture. During the
banquet, various organizations presented artistic performances, mostly
singing and dancing created during the 50 years of the People's Republic
of China. Mr. Zhang, who heads one of the four major Chinese newspapers
in Montreal, emphasizes that the coallition's theme for this year's
activities would be the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the
People's Republic. Consulate General of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Wei,
