US Deploys Aircraft Carrier to South China Sea [CND, 04/16/01] The United States is sending an aircraft carrier to the South China Sea to protect its reconnaissance planes, said a Washington Post report on Monday. According to the report, the U.S. Navy may resume the reconnaissance flights as early as Thursday in international airspace, about 80 kilometers off the Chinese coast. Officials from both sides are to meet on Wednesday to discuss the remaining issues of the spy plane collision, including China's objection to U.S. reconnaissance activities in the South China sea.
